My first review is 5 years old so the prices have increase.  Still the best soup in the area and still a good price at $5.  Love the staff and the atmosphere.  One of the best café options around the Capitol.

I walk by here all the time and have been a couple times before but haven't had a chance to write a review until now.

This coffee shop is located directly across the street from the Capitol so attracts a lot of people who work at the Capitol. The shop itself isn't all that entertaining and has outdated furnishings. I noticed today that it also doesn't seem all that clean either unfortunately. For example, there were lots of smudge marks on the screen I paid with and specks of dirt on lots of surfaces. I get the impression that they don't take cleaning surfaces all that seriously here.

I ordered a 12oz Mocha for here and confirmed that the chocolate they use is non-dairy. They only offer almond milk and soy milk as non-dairy options, so I chose almond milk. It didn't come with latte art and it tasted just okay. They also don't highlight or advertise what type of coffee beans they use.

Overall, not the type of place where I plan on coming back. Check out Temple Coffee or Oblivion Comics & Coffee nearby instead.

Such a great coffee shop find! After visiting the Capitol we were looking for a place to get coffee. There was a Starbucks just down the street but then we came across Chicory! I am so glad we stopped in! I asked the barista for a recommendation and she suggested an iced Mexican mocha. I got the regular size with almond milk and the pricing was average. The coffee was ready quickly and was delicious! It was so good, it was hard to put it down.

The shop was bigger than it looked from the inside. There are plenty of places to sit down and relax. The decor was rustic and very inviting.

Overall, I had an amazing experience here. They have almond milk and soy milk as dairy alternatives for their drinks which I appreciated. I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a great cup of coffee!

I come here maybe once a week because it's within walking distance of my office. I hear it can get really busy in the mornings, but I typically come around 10 or 11-ish and there's rarely ever a line. My go-to is their soy chai latte, occasionally dirty when the day calls for it :) It's never too sweet (think Starbucks), but also never too tea-esque (don't get me wrong, I love me some tea, but when I want a latte, I'm looking for some creaminess).

I see a lot of professional-looking folks come here for casual work meetings or interviews, which makes sense since it's right across the street from the Capitol. Because of this reason though, tables can be difficult to grab, but they do have these fireside rocking chairs that are typically vacant -- I guess meetings aren't as productive in rocking chairs?? So if you happen to see someone sitting in one of those bad boys, there's a good chance it's me.

Enter your phone number each time you order to rack up points and earn discounts and/or free drinks! (I now feel like a sales rep...) But really though, it's through the "Fivestars" program that a lot of other businesses also participate in, and I come here often enough to get a free specialty coffee or Italian soda at least once a month :)

Chicory Coffee & Tea is the coziest café near the State Capitol! When you walk in, the atmosphere immediately vibes calm, peaceful, and warm. Although their name makes it sound like their specialty is coffee and tea, their real gem is their daily soup specials! Every weekday starting at 11:00am, they serve about 7 different flavors of soups...and they sell fast! If you arrive after noon, there is a good chance that many of the soups are sold out. Check their Facebook page for daily listings.

Another favorite that I enjoy at Chicory is their Mexican mocha. It's sweet, flavorful, and topped with whipped cream. Also, the baristas can customize the sweetness level to your liking.

Chicory also sells regular coffee, espresso drinks, teas, and a variety of pastries. Their regular and chicory coffee are okay, but not outstanding. The pastries have been hit and miss. Throughout the years, I've had some really great pastries and others that were not as good. For lunch, they serve sandwiches, boxed salads, and other hot options.

Chicory Coffee & Tea is a great coffee shop across the street from the Capitol that serves amazing soups for lunch. It's a great place to meet a friend, relax with a cup of coffee, or just pick-up to-go. Also, they offer Five Star rewards so you can earn points for your purchases.
